The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra is an internationally renowned ensemble, and are currently artists-in-residence with the UMD School of Music during the 2011-2012 season. The Orchestra performs without a conductor, rotating the musical leadership for each work. By interpreting the scores individually, this management style presents unique and liberating challenges for the musicians while conveying the intimacy of chamber music in works of orchestral proportions. The Grammy Award-winning ensemble has been performing for 34 years on four continents. The Orchestra presents an annual series at Carnegie Hall and collaborates regularly with many dynamic artists across several genres, such as Isaac Stern, Gidon Kremer, Itzhak Perlman, Gil Shaham and Yo-Yo Ma.

Known for his poetic musicality and stunning technical prowess, Thibaudet has recorded compositions by a myriad of composers including Addinsell, Brahms, Chopin, Gershwin, Grieg, Mendelssohn, Ravel, Schumann and Richard Strauss. In 2010, he was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame for his musical achievement.
