Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune    Claude Debussy

This piece was inspired by a pastoral poem of the same title by the symbolist poet  Stéphane Mallarmé. Debussy sought to capture fleeting impressions from the poem which depicts the Greek god Pan frolicking and napping in the heat of the day. The music evokes the sensations of heat and fatigue and conjures up visions of nymphs playing in the distance while Pan lures them with his flute.  Nina Assimakopoulos
