Istituto Europeo di Musica

Official webSite: http://www.istitutoeuropeodimusica.eu

Official WebSite Director: http;//www.davidepolovineo.eu

A New Approach to Chopin's Piano-Music).

A New Approach to Chopin's Piano-Music

Copertina di un DVD della collana New Approach to Chopin's Piano-Music.

A New Approach to Chopin's Piano-Music è una collana multimediale sull'opera pianistica di Chopin.

The Cambridge Companion to Chopin (edited by JIM SAMSON, Cambridge University Press, Cambridge 1994).

EUROPEAN INSTITUTE OF MUSIC: ENGLISH TEXT

Positioned at the fork between EU and UNESCO, European Institute of Music ( IEM. In it. Istituto Europeo di Musica; in fr. Institut européen de musique) is a self governing community of scholars. Students are able to take advantage of the wide range of specialism. Study is focused primarily on original research. There are also more structured, taught course specializing in Interpretation and Music Performance, Dance ( centro di creazione coreografica) and Theatre-School (messa in scena e gioco d'arte drammatica)and interests of a large staff (by Standards of European Music Departments and UNESCO-Cultural Programme).Beyond helping to increase the number of teachers, IEM can be used to improve teacher quality, a crucial factor in the success of high-performing education systems. Consequently, IEM policies and programmes related to teacher training should be structured in a way that connects to specific classroom practices or engages teachers in a community of professional practice and ongoing development, policies that have proven to be effective in Music school reform.

Objectives

Many of the momentous economic and social changes that have been experienced in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries have been facilitated by or are directly due to a dramatic increase in the capabilities and availability of information and communications. The remarkable uptake of IEM has not only affected the Music and Dance-Theatre sectors but rippled through nearly every aspect of the education and society in many countries. International experience shows that conditions for the effective use of music, dance and Theatre in education vary from country to country. Indeed, formulating a policy on IEM in education requires taking a set of variables into account such as objectives, the availability of Arts, applications and content, and teacher capacities. These are defined as a combination of competencies, motivation and the characteristics of teachers’ working environment.UNESCO has contributed to the ongoing debate on technology and learning by launching a programme of studies, consultation and exchange on policies on IEM in education

Teaching and Music Research

The teaching of the School is undertaken by a professor, reader, and lecturers. The Academy is situated in Teramo, Rome and Padova. There are four courses: Interpretation, Performance, Programmes du profil écriture-composition and Electronic Music. Within these four general fields of study, students are able to select specific areas for their own work (with the advice of theire supervisors and approval of the Board of the School of Music). The course normally lasts 10 years. In both fields the examination requires each candidate to submit a dissertation and to sit 4 formal specialist papers. Those studying Interpretation and Performance are also required to give 3 recitals (solism, chamber music, Solo+Orchestra), and those studying écriture-composition and Electronic Music have to submit 3 compositions (solo, chamber music and Orchestra).

The opportunities offered are many. It transforms the pedagogy and can lead to an improved and more engaging learning experience. These effects are not limited to the classroom, for example, the transformation of distance education into e-learning and blended learning offers new options for delivery and new opportunities for in-service teacher training and support. The capacity of IEM represents possibilities for innovative peer learning across territories and countries. The ability of students to utilize IEM programme has become a new requirement for effective education systems.

Dance School: "Il centro di creazione coreografica"

The Dance-Academy is situated in Teramo. "Il centro di creazione coreografica" is the approach most associated with the traditional production model of Dance-education. Consequently, Dance-lessons may be conducted by teams of teachers working within or across courses and draw on their multiple talents. Because this type of learning is more complex, teachers need to possess both a deep understanding of their subject area as well as of the cognitive and social processes students employ and the problems they face when they engage in this type of learning. Teachers can use this Dance-pedagogical knowledge and their deep understanding of the subject to identify a student’s specific learning dance-problems and craft learning experience that help them master difficult-to-understand concepts.

Theatre School: "Messa in scena e creazione; Gioco di arte drammatica"

While IEM Teathre School (Messa in scena e creazione; Gioco d'arte drammatica) have had a significant impact the global Theatre and Cinema World and on the way people around the world work, live, and play, they have yet to have a significant impact on education practice and on what and how people learn in schools. The vast majority of Theatre educational systems, schools and classrooms around the world still participate in the production paradigm. With the introduction of each new technology bold claims were made about the significant impact they would have on the educational Theatre-system. In the past, each new technology came to be incorporated into the traditional forms of instruction but always on the margin and the educational Theatre-system remained fundamentally unchanged.

Theatre Courses:

However, a more important reason for being optimistic about the potential that new technologies hold for educational change is the way these new capabilities fi t with an educational system that is tuned to knowledge creation and that is aligned with the emerging technological, economic, social paradigm. The distributive capabilities of radio, film, and television all fit the mass production paradigm for education.

A new Approach to Chopin's Piano Music

The “New Approach to Chopin’s Piano Music” is a Rich Media DVD. I DVD: Ballade in F minor Op 52; Nocturnes Op 48 n 1 and 9 n 1; Etudes Op 10 (Davide Polovineo, piano): An exact Description of the Sources and a complete Conspectus of the Different Variants would extend far beyond the scope of this presentation. However, there does exist an exceptional Document: the edition published in London (1932) by Edouard Ganche for Oxford University Press. Although all of his twenty-seven Etudes for piano adhere to the Bach’s basic principle of Preludes - to train and refine a specific aspect of a performer’s technique - there is another element present. The Chopin’s Studies Op 10 adopt a simple A-B-A form. The Editorial Principles for the Ballade Op. 52 which have been applied derive from the Method followed for the Studies, according to which, when Several Sources were available, a Uniform “source-layer”, (as one may call it), was, as far as possible, taken as a basis. It is known that the Ballads were inspired by four poems by Adam Mickiewicz, the Great Polish poet. The fourth Ballade (F minor, Op. 52, 1843) is considered the greatest of the four and generally the Epitome of Romantic music. It was composed around 1842-43 and dedicated to Madame la Baronesse C. Nathaniel de Rothschild. Madame Rothschild invited Chopin to play in her Parisian Estate to introduce him to the Aristocracy and Nobility. The Ballade was said to be inspired by Mickiewicz's "Budri", a Story of a Father sending his sons to fight the Enemy but ending up with three wedding Feasts. The Nocturne is generally accredited to John Field, an Irish Composer and Pianist, who published his first three Nocturnes in 1814. The Majority of Chopin’s Nocturnes adopt a simple A-B-A form. The first of Chopin’s works to be published in France, Germany and England were these Nocturnes (Op. 9), which appeared over the period of December 1832 to June 1833. They were composed, in part, in Vienna and completed in Paris. This first Work immediately confirm the character of the Nocturne. For the Nocturne in C Minor, Op. 48 No. 1 (Lento), Robert Schumann reviewed both Nocturnes of opus 48, but his admiration was tinged with certain Reservations. This piece was composed in October 1841 and published in 1841-42; it is dedicated to Laura Duperre. The Chopin’s Open Work remains significant for its powerful concept of "openness”.The Elements of Multiplicity and Plurality in Chopin’s art are an interactive Process between Reader and Text.
