Nun komm' der Heiden Heiland (Now comes the gentiles' Savior)         Bach/Busoni

Originally scored for organ solo, this chorale prelude is heard here in transcriptions by Italian pianist-composer Ferruccio Busoni. Though purists often exhibit disdain for Busoni's liberties with the original material, it is in part thanks to him that this sublime music lives on in concert halls in an age when organ recitals are increasingly rare.  A true master in the fine art of transcription, note how Busoni uses doubled octaves to recreate the organ pedal parts.  In comparison to many of Busoni's transcriptions, this one is only of moderate technical difficulty. However, the dense polyphonic textures present a completely different challenge for the player.    Jason Peterson
