The concluding waltzes by Chopin were never meant to be danced. I begin with one of the composer’s favorites: Waltz in A flat major, Op. 64 No.3. The Waltz in C sharp minor, Op. 64 No. 2, is challenging for its sectional quality and capricious melancholy. It has an interesting form with constant tempo changes, similar to those heard in Mozart’s Fantasie. My program concludes with one of Chopin´s most technically challenging and largest waltzes. The opening thrill of Waltz in A flat major, Op. 42, may entice you to dance wherever you might be. Elina Viljanen
