Vocalise, Sergei Rachmaninoff, arranged by Earl Wild

The Vocalise for voice and piano was originally composed around 1912 as the last of a set of fourteen songs and quickly became one of the most popular of the set. Rachmaninoff himself made several highly successful arrangements of it for solo piano and violin and orchestra. Earl Wilde, a virtuoso American pianist known for his creative transcriptions had always been a devotee of Rachmaninoff’s music. Having listened to Rachmaninoff’s piano style for over two decades and having absorbed its technique, Wilde decided to transcribe all fourteen of the songs, Vocalise being the highlight of the transcriptions.      Karén Hakobyan

A wonderful performance. It brings back so much of my past with my mother playing this piece on her grand piano when I as about 7 years old. Karen's rendition is thrilling.
