Jake Heggie is the composer of the operas Dead Man Walking (libretto by Terrence McNally, based on the book by Sister Helen Prejean) and The End of the Affair (libretto by Heather McDonald, based on the book by Graham Greene). He has composed nearly 200 songs as well as concerti, orchestral works and chamber music. His songs and operas are championed internationally by such singers as Renée Fleming, Audra McDonald, Patricia Racette, Susan Graham, Frederica von Stade, Jennifer Larmore, Bryn Terfel, and Teddy Tahu Rhodes.

Jake Heggie was born in Florida (1961), and raised in Ohio and California. His first composition teacher was the late Ernst Bacon. He attended UCLA where he studied piano with the late Johana Harris and composition with Roger Bourland, Paul DesMarais, Paul Reale, and the late David Raksin. He has made his home in San Francisco since 1993.

Based on Emily Dickinson texts, The Faces of Love is a growing collection of songs whose creation has spanned Mr. Heggie's compositional career.     Leah Partridge
