Noah          André Previn

André Previn's eclectic interests and abilities as a world-renowned conductor, virtuoso pianist, jazz artist and composer establish him as one of the towering musical figures of our time.  His compositions-including award-winning scores for stage and film-form an important part of his legacy. Noah is a charming character piece, the first of the Two Little Serenades written for Itzhak Perlman, who was expecting his first child. Not knowing whether the new arrival would be a girl or a boy, Previn wrote two serenades-Noah and Naava-insisting that the Perlmans "owed him another baby". The simple dolce melody of Noah is filled with unexpected twists and turns, portraying the naïveté of a childlike perspective in a complex world.    Andrew Smith
