Danse Espagnole from La Vida Breve (4’)   Manuel de Falla, arr. Fritz Kreisler

Danse Espagnole comes from Manuel de Falla’s opera La Vida Breve, composed in 1912-1913. In 1926, Fritz Kreisler arranged the dance from Act II for violin and piano and titled it Danse Espagnole.  Manuel de Falla moved from Spain to Paris to expand his musical horizons and to experience the avant garde; there, he encountered a country intoxicated by music evoking his homeland. Danse Espagnole, written in 3/8 time, contains imitations of Spanish dance music and folk tunes.       Joanna Marie Frankel
