So I'm kind of new to the classical music genre, so I wanted to get some opinions from some of the vets around here...where do you see the classical music genre going in the coming years?
Personally, I believe it's managed to stay the way it is for long that it will never change.
I'm not sure how it's going to change, but I can certainly tell you it's going to change. In fact, it's already changed quite a bit since its birth. For instance, going to a performance now is nothing like it was even a few centuries ago: people will get up in the middle of performances, they serve refreshments a lot of times, and I've even seen some people whisper and make comments throughout the entire performance.
I'm not really one of the experts around here, but it seems to me that it has changed quite a bit actually. In both the sense of how it is played and what is considered classical music. As for where it is going, I think more things will continue to be classified classical when, for the most part, they really aren't.
I'm not sure I completely disagree with Duey here. Sure, some things are considered classical that shouldn't be, but, as a whole, it seems very similar to how it was even hundreds of years ago.
