Gabriel Escudero (gabitico), Piano
Biography
Born in 1982, Gabriel Escudero started playing piano at age six. Mr. Escudero has been awarded many prizes from various competitions such as 1st prize in the Young Artist Competition in Murcia and the Best National Instrumentalist (1996), 2nd prize in “The Ruperto Chapi” Piano Competition, 1st prize in the “Ciutat de Manresa” piano competition, 1st prize at the “Infanta Cristina” Piano Competition, Special Steinway & Sons prize (1998), and 1st prize at the “Ciutat de Xativa” Piano Competition (2001). As a result of this success, he has had the opportunity to perform in many halls in Europe and the United States.
He has performed under the baton of conductors such as Jose Rodilla, Virginia Martinez and Martin Baeza among other, and has recorded for National Spanish Radio and Television solo works by Brahms, and works with orchestra by Chopin and Rachmaninov. He has been critically hailed many times as one Spain’s most talented young pianists.
In February 2009, he premiered pieces by American composers such as Doug Opel and Bruce Stark at the contemporary music festival Keys to the Future in New York. He has also premiered works by Mateo Soto (a young Spanish composer) who has dedicated a number of works to Mr. Escudero. His appearances include many halls in New York such as Carnegie Hall, the Cervantes Institute, the Queen Sofia Institute, the Skandinavian House, the Polish Consulate and the New York Historical Society Museum.
In addition to his participation in the Mannes Festival, Mr. Escudero has performed at international music festivals, including the opening concert at the Burgos International Music Festival. In July 2009 he appeared as the invited solo artist with the Kammerensemble from the Berlin Opera Orchestra performing Beethoven´s fourth piano concerto at the closing concert of the 1st International Music Festival in Almansa (Spain).
Since 2006, Gabriel has lived in New York, being a scholarship student at the Manhattan School of Music where he earned his Master’s degree with pedagogue Arkady Aronov. In September 2008, Gabriel entered the Mannes College where, with a Goldsmith Foundation Award and a Schonberg stipend, he earned the Professional Studies Diploma in 2010. He is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at the Manhattan School of Music.
Gabriel has also worked and received advice from such renowned artists as Eldar Nebolsin and Yefim Bronfman.
