The inspiration behind the "Circle of Waltzes" project was to demonstrate the historical richness of the waltz genre by presenting a wide variety of works composed through various different time periods. It is very interesting to observe the different perspectives and distinctive approaches of each composer of the program.
Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev wrote the ballet Cinderella from 1940-44. During this time he also worked on transcriptions. He wrote six pieces for piano. Waltz: Cinderella and the Prince is agitated, surreal, violent and yet very pleasant.
