Premiered in Paris at the Théâtre du Chatelet by Serge Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes on June 13, 1911, this year marks the 100th anniversary of Petrouchka, the tragic Russian tale of an oppressed yet diabolical puppet.  Petrouchka, a pinnacle work of 20th century modernism, remains fresh and relevant today as a metaphor for human suffering under oppression.  The celebrated Danse Russe comes at the end of the first scene, where the three puppets Petrouchka, the Ballerina and the Moor begin to dance after being enchanted to life by their master, the Juggler.   Stephanie Ho and Saar Ahuvia
