Symphony No. 4 in F Major           William Boyce

Allegro, Vivace ma non troppo, Gavot-Allegro

Dr. Boyce is well-known for his sacred music, although claims could be made for his talent as a dramatic composer as well. He represents the late English baroque style, which owes much to Handel, as well as anyone. Boyce, as mentioned above, had studied with Maurice Greene and had also served as an apprentice to him at St. Paul's Cathedral after his voice broke. He eventually became the Master of the King's Music, succeeding Greene, and was made one of the three organists of the Chapel Royal in 1758.    David Schrader
