In American City for piano and wind ensemble, a continuous, single-movement work, the piano frequently assumes prominent, virtuoso and solo roles, and at other times functions as simply another instrument in the ensemble.  This work dwells extensively on two pitch classes, G# and B, together as "harmony," and one after another, as a melodic motif.  The "chordal" material features thirds, frequently in the context of diminished and augmented triads.
