Joaquin Rodrigo is
one of Spain's most famous 20th century composers. His music was
inspired by the innumerable melodies of Spain, and despite never having seen his country's landscape (Rodrigo became
blind at the age of three), with every note he describes the colors of a
country he loved with all his heart. Invocation
and Dance is a monumental work, composed as homage to Manuel de Falla. In
it, Rodrigo creates deeply reflective passages of magic (the invocation), while
others transport us to laughter or despair (the dance). In the pieces'
arpeggios and harmonics, Rodrigo very cleverly conceals some fragments of de Falla's
work such as El
Amor brujo, or Noches en los Jardines de España. Rafael Serrallet
