Liebesfreud (Love's Joy) is one of many short concert
works written by the great composer/violinist Fritz Kreisler. Some of these pieces were written in the
style of Tartini, Couperin, and others, and indeed Kreisler himself first
attributed his compositions to these composers until he revealed in 1935 that
in fact he was the composer.
Liebesfreud, along with its partner work, Liebeslied, were in fact always
published under Kreisler's name. Both
works are virtuosic and charming, and have become staples of the
encore/showpiece repertoire. Michael Cansfield
