Suite Populaire Espagnole                 Manuel de Falla

El Pano Morunol; Asturiana; Jota; Nana; Cancion; Polo

Spanish composer Manuel de Falla learned much from his French counterparts including Paul Dukas, Debussy and Ravel.  Like Bartok though, he created music that embodied a national spirit based on folk music.  Of Catalan and Andalusian origins, de Falla was born in 1876.  When he composed the Suite Populaire Espagnole in 1915, de Falla had just returned to Spain from Paris where he had been studying.  This set of six songs was originally written for voice and piano.  It was arranged for violin and piano by Paul Kochanski.     Nurit Pacht
