Theme and Variations (Quasi presto, a capriccio) – after the 24th caprice.

Liszt wrote transcriptions in 1838 for 6 out of the 24 Caprices composed by Paganini for solo violin, and revised them in 1851. Paganini's 24th Caprice is certainly the best known, or at least its theme is, since it has been widely adapted into works by many other composers including Rachmaninoff, Brahms and Lustoslawski. Paganini wrote 11 variations and a coda, and Liszt exactly adhered to this plan and remained very faithful to Paganini’s text.          Riyad Nicolas
