Liszt has written hundreds of transcriptions and arrangements of other composers' works. Very often he popularized unknown works such as Schubert and Schumann "lieder", all the Beethoven symphonies, and Bach organ works. He also created many "fantasies" or "paraphrases" on popular opera arias where he could demonstrate not just his astonishing virtuosity but, in a way, create little dramas on the keyboard. His Rigoletto Paraphrase, a piano transcription of "Bella figlia dell'amore", the famous quartet from Act 3 of Verdi’s opera Rigoletto, is one of the best known of Liszt’s works in this genre, along with the Sonnambula Fantasy after Bellini and Reminiscences de Don Juan after Mozart.         Anastasya Terenkova
