Franz Liszt's arrangement of Franz Schubert's song Auf dem Wasser zu Singen
Franz Liszt was a great admirer of Franz Schubert and often looked to his works for transcriptions. In Stanchen, Liszt varies the theme by alternating registers of the piano. In Auf dem Wasser zu Singen, Liszt echoes each verse of the song differently, playing upon the changing sonorities. In this song, we see the fight between Major and minor which resolves with triumph in the major coda. Konstantyn Travinskyy
