Henri
Vieuxtemps, a French violinist and composer of the 19th century,
came from a well known family of musicians. A successful virtuoso touring throughout
Europe and the Americas, Vieuxtemps was famous for performing his own violin
concertos, which combined technical mastery and refined compositional craft. Vieuxtemps was also a fine violist, and wrote
several works for the instrument, including a sonata for viola and piano. The
Capriccio in c minor for solo viola concludes a set of six pieces originally
written for unaccompanied violin written sometime between 1881 and 1887. Eric Nowlin
